VAST holds a meeting with Science and Technology journalists on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day
Attending the meeting, on the new agencies, there were Mr. Ha Hong – Chairman of the Club of Science and Technology Journalists, representatives of the People’s Newspaper, Industry and Trade Newspaper, Voice of Vietnam, VnExpress, Vietnam Television, Vietnam News Agency, … On the side of VAST, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ha Quy Quynh – Head of Department of Application & Development of Technology; Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh – Director of Institute of Geophysics; Dr. Nguyen Le Minh – Deputy Director of Institute of Geophysics.
Speaking at the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ha Quy Quynh sent his best wishes to reporters and journalists representing the news agencies on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day and thanked the companion and community cooperation and support of the press agencies, especially science and technology journalists, for VAST. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ha Quy Quynh hoped that through the Science and Technology Journalist Club and the clue of the press agencies, the two sides have increasingly more closely coordinated and sharply depicted Science and Technology activities. With diverse forms, journalists have timely conveyed the spirit and message of Science and Technology mechanisms and policies to life; honoring typical individuals and organizations with good performance; encourage fields, branches, organizations of Science and Technology,… continue to create and develop Science and Technology.

Last year, VAST has achieved many successes in all field such as basic research, technology application and deployment, training, contributing to the development of science and technology of the country. Besides being grateful to journalists, VAST also introduce to news agencies the Earthquake and tsunami alerting center of the Geophysics Institute, one of the research activities that highly appreciated at VAST. Institute of Geophysics, directly under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, is managing and operating a network of national earthquake observation stations and many earthquake observation throughout the country. Institute of Geophysics with the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center is also the only agency responsible to the Government for issuing earthquake and tsunami alerts throughout Vietnam. The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center has represented Vietnam as an official member of the Pacific Region Tsunami Early Warning System (PTWS). The earthquake observation network in Vietnam was formed and developed with the main purpose of studying the laws of earthquake expression on the territory, contributing to the mitigation of natural disasters, attending to the country’s sustainable development. The first seismic station in Vietnam was built in Phu Lien in 1923. So far, the network of national earthquake-observation stations operated by the Institute of Geophysics has covered the whole country and has been upgraded over time.
Introducing the Geophysics Institute’s quick alert and earthquake early warning system
In the framework of the meeting, representatives of the press agencies visited the headquarter of the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center of the Institute of Geophysics in Hanoi; Phu Lien earthquake station is under the network of Vietnam national town station in Hai Phong; and offered incense to commemorate at Ho Chi Minh Road Historical Site.
